I’m someone who struggles with self-esteem and self-doubt from time to time, where I don’t feel sure enough to voice my opinions or I tend to shy away from large crowds and new adventures due to the unknown.
A while back, I remember seeing Ayesha Curry on her Instagram story wearing an amazing leopard-print top which I knew I could never pull off, but I loved how bold she looked. She dominated that photo and that inspired me.
When I started online shopping after seeing her story, I came across a top with a similar pattern to the one she wore. I was a bit hesitant and nervous to get it. The thoughts of “What will people think?”, “Is it too loud and out there?”, “Can I pull it off?” flooded my mind. I took a deep breath and just made the purchase because I could always return it, right? This leopard top was different yet not too crazy from my usual style.
I timidly wore it to work, and boy, the number of compliments I received was unreal. I, then, wore it out one night and to brunch the next day, and it felt as if all eyes were on me each time. This completely skyrocketed my confidence and my love for this print. I didn’t realize how a mere animal print could actually empower me to feel okay about myself.
Whenever I wear leopard now, I genuinely feel confident – ready to take on any challenge headed my way. It’s a statement piece that can elevate any look like a red lip. Hence my question – is it the new red lip?!
From shoes to sweaters to headbands, leopard is taking over my closet. I can count at least 25 different items I own right now. But I am missing a good leopard faux fur coat (note to self – add to wishlist).
Here are some of my favorite pieces from Nordstrom Rack and J.Crew! And for those of you who just want to incorporate a bit of leopard that’s subtler, try a small accessory such as a belt or scarf.
Just remember that leopard is still trending, and it’s a print that I really don’t think will go out of style. It can be worn throughout the seasons, day or night. A closet staple, for sure.
Duster from Nordstrom Rack

I styled this leopard duster with an all-black ensemble – turtleneck, jeans and heeled boots. This duster is a statement piece, and I wanted it to do all the talking. By pairing this duster with a turtleneck, it looks less like a bathrobe and really gives you that boss lady vibe. It would look great over a dress as well, and it’s true to size.
Blouse from J.Crew

I love a good drapey, flowy blouse (and it’s true to size)! I especially love this top because of the tie-neck, making it more unique. You can wear this to work, on the weekend, any day, any time. I paired this top with black jeans and ankle-strap heels for a more sophisticated look. You can wear it with white pants and flats as we transition to spring and summer.
